Sisyrinchium 'Moody Blues' (Blue-eyed grass)
'Moody Blues' is a boldly colored blue-eyed grass from
the breeding work of Jeltto seeds. The brilliant violet blue blooms
are adorned with yellow eyes and cheerfully hang above the grass-like
foliage. This improved US native is a great addition to the woodland
setting, rock garden, container garden, and container plantings. We
have enjoyed these plants for years here in Delaware, where we have a
couple native types. They love well-drained soil and a bit of compost
at planting time. The large flush of blooms happens in early summer,
and they will sporadically bloom after this without a trim but will
bloom heavier if given a trim before the seed is set. Butterflies and
pollinators love the blooms. A great choice for the mid-Atlantic
region.
