Spring Flowering Bulbs - Fall through Winter Planting
Most spring flowering bulbs require winter cooling in order to grow and bloom properly. They are to be planted during the fall or winter months. If ground is already frozen, bulbs can be stored in the refrigerator until your ground is workable. We carry early spring flower bulbs such as Crocus, Iris reticulata, winter aconite and snowdrops. Mid spring flowering bulbs such as tulips, daffodils, anemone blanda, fritillaria and muscari. Late spring flowering bulbs such as Allium and double late tulips. Small bulbs are typically planted 3 to 4 inches deep while larger bulbs are planted 6 to 8 inches deep. Most spring flowering bulbs require Full Sun to Partial shade. Shade tolerant bulbs are available like Scilla, Puschkinia and Corydalis. Corydalis are delicate little plants that are in the Dicentra aka Bleeding Heart family. The great thing about most spring flowering bulbs is they are easy to grow, low-maintenance and winter hardy meaning they can be left in the ground, undisturbed for several years. They multiply readily and can be lifted then divided and replanted every 4 to 5 years.
